Biography

Anthony CURINGA
27-03-1996

Anthony’s work is of the most tactile and intuitive nature. He first became interested in instinctive textiles during his studies at the Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin, where he created a collection of materials that imitate the animal surface layers of unknown hybrid species.

Anthony explores the volumes and remodeling of the human figure in a fast way to expel all the creative energy, both visually and through the senses. Whether by the sound emitted by the moving body, by what man feels in his new skin, by his displacement, he wants to question our physical and psychological identity through a garment that inhabits the body: half man, half beast, extrahuman beings, mutants ready to face the asphalt and our cosmopolitan jungles.

He tries to carry out his work halfway between art and fashion, to combine design, architecture, new technologies and social criticism. Her favourite themes are identity, isolation, oppression and body movement. He is interested in fashion, but not in the general sense of the term, he is more interested in the evolution of the human body and its envelope through clothing. The shapes and second skins it produces complete and transform the body, and therefore the emotions. It is the quest for perfection of the body that challenges me on our ideals of beauty. Hybridization challenges our physical and psychological identity. Anthony uses aesthetic codes to challenge the values of beauty and good taste: distortion, exaggeration, accumulation, expansion to provoke and react on our identity.

Attraction, repulsion, discomfort, fear, anxiety: use the body to express and transform emotions.
